Infinity Ward has promised a Captain Price hair fix in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, after screenshots of his botched appearance went viral during last weekend’s closed beta. IGN reports the developer and publisher Activision are both committed to the fix.
Price is normally a man with a full head of hair and a beard the series has kept largely untouched since 2019. The version making the rounds online was not that. The images showed the fan-favourite operator looking less like the grizzled veteran and more like a man who lost a fight with a pair of clippers. “That ain’t captain Price that’s lieutenant Cost,” ran one popular post.

The developer’s community team replied on X to the more popular posts, promising the issue would be addressed “in a future update.” The cause is narrower than the memes suggest: Captain Price’s hair only renders wrongly at the lowest level of detail.
“Captain Price’s hair does not appear correctly when viewing his character model at the lowest level of detail.”

That caveat matters for players on older machines. The team’s full reply added that “ultimately this will not be an issue if players meet our recommended specs” — a polite way of saying low-end PCs keep the cursed version for now. The beta itself is a busy one: this year’s test adds campaign and Warzone for the first time in the series.
When is the Captain Price hair fix coming?
Infinity Ward has not given a date. The fix sits on the same Known Issues list as dropped framerates when cooking lethal weapons, hitches for PC players during their first multiplayer matches, and a stuck loadout screen bug — so the barber’s return may take a while.
The closed beta ran over the weekend, with the early-access window closing on 25 August. The open beta follows from 28 August to 1 September on every supported platform, including Switch 2 — a first for the series on a Nintendo system. Modern Warfare 4 itself launches 23 October 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, per Activision’s announcement.
Why does Captain Price look different in Modern Warfare 4?
Captain Price’s hair renders incorrectly at the lowest level-of-detail graphics setting, which makes him look different from his usual appearance. On normal or high settings he looks like the operator fans know. Screenshots of the buggy low-detail look went viral during the closed beta.
Who is Captain Price?
Captain John Price is a British SAS operator and long-running Call of Duty lead, recognisable by his boonie hat and full beard. He has been a central figure in the Modern Warfare sub-series since the 2019 reboot, and he leads Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 4.
Will the Captain Price hair fix help players on low-end PCs?
The bug appears at the lowest level of detail, the setting players on low-end hardware are most likely to use. Infinity Ward says the issue ‘will not be an issue if players meet our recommended specs’, and has promised a fix in a future update, though no date has been confirmed.
