Archetype Entertainment has redesigned the face of male Jun, the protagonist of its sci-fi RPG Exodus, after months of player criticism. Push Square reports that general manager Chad Robertson revealed the change in a studio update, with roughly six months to go before the game reaches PS5.
The tweak is subtle rather than a full redesign. According to Push Square, the overall length of Jun’s face has been reduced and his more rounded features have been sharpened. The outlet’s side-by-side comparison, built from screenshots shared by a ResetEra user in this forum thread, shows the old model on the left and the new one on the right. The difference is easy to miss at a glance, though.
The reason for the change is the reception the old face got. Push Square notes that the comment sections under earlier Exodus trailers are full of jibes at Jun’s previous look, and says the studio acted on feedback from potential players.
Players who hoped the backlash might lead to a character creator will be disappointed. Jun remains a defined character, and while you can choose between a male or female Jun, Push Square says the facial structure can’t be changed. Hairstyle, facial hair, eye colour, makeup and tattoos are customisable, which gives you some room to personalise the hero without touching the underlying face. That’s the same limit the old model had, so the redesign changes what everyone starts with and not how much control you get.
The timing leaves Archetype room to keep adjusting. The official Exodus news page says the game launches on 7 April 2027, a date the studio announced on 25 August at Opening Night Live alongside a trailer featuring Jun and Salt, an octopus companion. The site’s wishlist links point to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store, so the RPG targets PS5, Xbox and PC.
What we don’t know yet
The update covers male Jun only. Push Square’s report doesn’t say whether the female version will get the same treatment.
When does Exodus launch, and on which platforms?
The official site lists a release date of 7 April 2027. It links wishlist pages for PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Can I create my own character in Exodus?
Not in the sense of a full face creator. You choose a male or female Jun, and Push Square says you can change hairstyle, facial hair, eye colour, makeup and tattoos, but not facial structure.
What exactly changed about male Jun’s face?
Push Square says the overall length of the face is shorter and the rounded features are sharper. The difference is small, so the comparison image on Push Square’s page is the easiest way to judge it.
