Dragami Games is turning Lollipop Chainsaw into a live-action feature film, with the new Lollipop Chainsaw movie planned as an R-rated action-comedy prequel to the 2012 game. The announcement was made during Tokyo Game Show 2026, with IGN reporting the film details from a reveal first reported by Deadline.

Lollipop Chainsaw movie will follow Juliet before the original game

The film will again centre on Juliet Starling, the San Romero High School cheerleader and zombie hunter from the game. Deadline describes the story as taking place before the original events, with a zombie outbreak engulfing Juliet’s school and forcing her to protect her friends and family while keeping her boyfriend Nick close.

The project is being developed by an international team including Nada Holdings boss Joe Teng, former ZDF Studios drama executive Robert Franke, Throne Inc managing director Takafumi Yuki, Ambitious Entertainment’s Kirk Shaw and Non Stop TV’s Patricio Rabuffetti. Dragami Games is licensing the feature rather than announcing a studio, distributor or release plan.

What has been announced about the live-action film?

Dragami Games president Shohei Sato said the film is another step for the franchise, while Franke said the team wants it to feel true to Lollipop Chainsaw while working as its own action-horror comedy. That is the familiar adaptation promise, now with added undead teenagers.

There is no cast attached, and no release date or director has been announced. IGN also notes that the original game’s co-writer James Gunn and designer Goichi “Suda51” Suda have not been announced as part of the film team, so their involvement should not be assumed.

The movie joins a wider revival for the series. Dragami released Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP in 2024 and has also announced a new game, Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, alongside plans for an animated series. Deadline’s report says the film is intended for a global audience, but there is currently no information about a UAE release.
