When is The Batman Part II out now?
The Batman Part II now opens on 18 February 2028, moving off the 1 October 2027 date it had most recently held. Matt Reeves announced the change himself on social media, pairing it with online camera test footage of Robert Pattinson back in the cowl. Variety and Forbes both reported the shift, and Bloody Disgusting confirmed the new theatrical date. If you have been holding an October 2027 slot in your cinema calendar since we covered filming getting under way, that one is gone.
The reason is straightforward: the film’s start of production was delayed five months, and the new date buys Reeves additional time in post-production. Crucially, The Batman Part II keeps its IMAX screens on 18 February 2028, so the delay is about finishing the film properly rather than downgrading its release. This is the latest in a long line of moves for the sequel, which per Wikipedia’s timeline has drifted from an original October 2025 target through October 2026 and October 2027 before landing here.
Why did the date change, and what else moved?
The Batman Part II moved because Warner Bros needed the 1 October 2027 slot for another film. J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi fantasy The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, shifted off 13 November 2027 and onto 1 October 2027, the date Batman had been sitting on. That set off a chain reaction across the studio’s schedule. Abrams’ film had a test screening at the Regal Irvine, after which Warners decided it wanted 70mm IMAX prints, giving the director more time to finish post. The Great Beyond is Abrams’ first original movie in over a decade and also features Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever and Samuel L. Jackson.
Elsewhere in the reshuffle, Sam Esmail’s Panic Carefully swaps dates with New Line’s Revenge of La Llorona: Panic Carefully moves from 26 February 2027 to 9 April 2027 in IMAX, while Revenge of La Llorona moves up to 26 February 2027. All of this is playing out while a pending Paramount acquisition of the 103-year-old Warner Bros remains held up by antitrust lawsuits from the attorneys general of California, New York and ten other states, a deal that had earlier been expected to close by the autumn of 2026.
Who is in The Batman Part II?
Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell return as Batman, Alfred and the Penguin. Reeves directs and co-wrote the sequel, which sits under DC’s Elseworlds label, meaning it is self-contained and not directly tied to James Gunn’s main DCU films. New additions to the cast include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch. Serkis, incidentally, has said he can juggle this with his other 2027 commitments, as we noted when he confirmed the double workload.

The new date lands on the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend in the US, a window that has previously hosted superhero titles including Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Captain America: Brave New World, according to GeekTyrant. For UAE moviegoers, no local cinema date has been confirmed for the new 2028 timing, so the February 2028 global frame is the one to plan around for now.
