Barry Sloane, the actor who has voiced and performed Captain Price in the rebooted Modern Warfare games, wants the same role in Paramount’s live-action Call of Duty film. Asked about it on the Dan Allen Gaming podcast, Sloane didn’t play it coy. As IGN reports, he said: “Absolutely, I would love to play him in a movie.”

His case rests on time served. Sloane argued that nobody else has lived with the character for close to a decade, understood the scale of the projects, or been through the journey alongside the fanbase from the start. He also accepted that the decision isn’t his, saying Hollywood casting can turn on reasons outsiders never see, and that he’s happy to see where the cards fall.

Fans are campaigning, but the studio decides

Sloane said there’s been a vocal push from fans for him to play Price on screen, which he appreciates. He also described how this usually works: a studio has its own list of names for a role this size and runs its own process. Still, he believes he’d be an “asset” to the production if given the chance.

The tension is familiar from other game adaptations. Modern games increasingly scan their actors’ likenesses, which feeds fan demand for the same faces on screen. Studios, though, tend to lean towards established box-office names. IGN notes that whether the film uses the games’ cast remains to be seen, and FanBolt reports that no cast has been confirmed and no start date for principal photography has been announced.

Where the film stands

Peter Berg directs and co-writes the film with Taylor Sheridan. The Hollywood Reporter says Paramount announced the 30 June 2028 release date at CinemaCon. The AV Club reports that Berg confirmed at Fanatics Fest that the story will sit in the Modern Warfare sub-series. IGN says it’s unclear whether it’s a new story or a direct adaptation of one of the games. A Modern Warfare film without Price is hard to picture, but his place in the games’ timeline complicates things.

Spoilers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 follow.

IGN says Modern Warfare 4 removes several characters, Price among them. The game ends with him left to bleed out in the wilderness while Ghost says goodbye. If the film is canon, IGN says it would have to take place before those events. A sequel-style story might instead follow new characters, or survivors such as Ghost and the Korean characters introduced in MW4.

With a June 2028 release, IGN expects casting news sometime next year as filming approaches.

Has anyone been cast in the Call of Duty movie?

No. FanBolt reports that no cast has been confirmed, and Sloane’s comments are a public pitch, not a casting announcement.

When is the Call of Duty movie out?

The Hollywood Reporter says Paramount has dated it for 30 June 2028 in cinemas. We haven’t seen a UAE release date yet.
