Marvel’s most revealing Avengers: Doomsday footage in weeks comes from a car ad. IGN reports that a new Jeep commercial offers a first look at Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler teleporting, and its closing seconds have fans asking whether Doctor Strange is in the film after all.

Jeep and Marvel Studios launched “A Jeep 4×4 for Any Universe” on 6 November, the third and final chapter of a year-long campaign tied to the film, which arrives in theatres on 18 December. The campaign sends Jeep vehicles through Avengers Tower, the X-Mansion, the Fantastic Four’s universe and Doctor Doom’s Latveria. It isn’t film footage, and Comic Basics notes the spot carries an on-screen “Fictionalization” disclaimer. Even so, IGN says it shows elements the official trailers have kept hidden, including Human Torch flyovers and a war-torn X-Men school.

The 48-second spot features Doctor Doom, Captain America, Thor, Johnny Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, the Sentinels, The Thing and H.E.R.B.I.E. The cast list was shared in a post from Cosmic Marvel on X.

Nightcrawler is the standout. Cumming’s character was announced for the film some time ago, yet IGN says this is the first official look at him using his teleportation powers in Doomsday since 2003’s X2. It’s a quick moment of him leaping through cars, but it suggests Marvel sees him as a selling point in a crowded line-up. We’ve also had plenty of Doctor Doom material lately, including the CinemaCon trailer and a World Series crossover, but little of the X-Men side.

The portal clue

The detail fans are fixating on comes at the end. As the Jeeps park, they return to one location through orange portals, the kind seen in the Doctor Strange films and Avengers: Endgame. IGN points out that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is one of the few heroes not yet confirmed for Doomsday, so the portals prompted a wave of reactions on X, including this one and this reply.

The evidence is thin. IGN notes that Wong and Ned Leeds also haven’t been confirmed, and the portals may simply tie the ad’s multiverse message together. The Direct takes the opposite view, calling them Sling Ring portals and saying the promo has fans convinced Strange appears. IGN’s own take is that these are more Strange-style wizardry than any official footage has shown so far. It also floats a more playful idea: Doctor Doom might have learned the trick himself.

What to watch next

Whatever the portals mean, we won’t have answers until the film opens on 18 December. If you want to be ready, our Doomsday watchlist covers the 15 films and shows to catch first, and the Downey and Pascal Halloween costume swap is a lighter bit of pre-release fun.

Is the Jeep ad actual footage from Avengers: Doomsday?

No. It’s a marketing spot made with Marvel Studios, and Comic Basics reports it carries a “Fictionalization” disclaimer. IGN says it nonetheless shows characters and settings that official trailers haven’t.

Is Doctor Strange confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday?

Not officially. IGN says Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange isn’t among the confirmed cast, and the portals at the end of the ad are only fan speculation for now.
