Nicolas Cage isn’t mourning Spider-Noir. In an interview with IGN on the red carpet for his upcoming sports comedy Madden, the actor said he was relieved when Prime Video chose not to order a second season.
Asked by IGN’s Jeffrey Vega in early November whether Ben Reilly’s story had more left to tell, Cage answered simply: “No.” He described the single season as perfect and said he doesn’t want to be stuck repeating a character. Playing Reilly was “high-risk, tightrope stuff”, he said, and stretching that across further seasons could wear out his welcome. When the show wasn’t picked up, his reaction was “Whew, thank you!”
That fits what he said when the news first broke. According to TVLine, Prime Video cancelled the series on 4 September, and Cage told Deadline then that one season was perfect “having said what I wanted to say” with his “pop-art Spider-Man”. The interview adds a reason: he’s now working on True Detective, which he likes for being a one-season commitment. He compared that to older television that ran for a single run, and said the Spider-Noir season “will always be there and always be fresh”.

IGN reports that the series got strong reviews and then dropped out of Prime Video’s top 10 before the cancellation. It’s available on Prime Video in both black and white and colour versions. A second season was never likely to include him anyway. Cage has said he refused to sign a waiver allowing AI to be used on the show. In his words, Amazon is “a very AI-friendly company” and he’s “not an AI-friendly actor”, adding that he’ll “probably not work with that studio again”. We covered that in more detail in our report on Cage’s AI waiver stance. He has opposed AI in performance publicly before. IGN notes that at the 2025 Saturn Awards he warned that letting AI manipulate a performance “even a little bit” would eventually erode the integrity of the art.
Next up for Cage is Madden, in which he plays the late NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden. IGN says it’s due on 18 November and that his performance has already sparked viral debate among fans.
Is Spider-Noir getting a season 2?
No. TVLine reports that Prime Video cancelled the series after one season in September, and Cage says he wouldn’t have wanted to continue the story.
Can I still watch Spider-Noir?
Yes. IGN says season 1 is on Prime Video in both black-and-white and colour versions. Check the Prime Video catalogue in your country for availability.
Why won’t Nicolas Cage work with Amazon again?
Cage says he declined to sign a waiver permitting AI use on Spider-Noir and that he’ll probably not work with the studio again, citing Amazon’s investment in OpenAI.
