The first Game of Thrones film now has a release window. Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will reach cinemas after 2027.
The confirmation arrived quietly in the studio’s second-quarter shareholders’ letter, published alongside its earnings call. The slate section names the film among the titles planned beyond 2027:
“Beyond 2027, the slate will continue to leverage iconic intellectual property, including the theatrical event film Aegon’s Conquest from the Game of Thrones universe, the next installment of The Matrix, the next Batman film, and a live-action Jetsons film starring Jim Carrey.”
Warner Bros first confirmed the project at CinemaCon in April, making it the franchise’s first feature film after years on television. It follows Aegon I Targaryen — Aegon the Conqueror — and his dragons as they unite six of the Seven Kingdoms, roughly 300 years before Game of Thrones. Beau Willimon, creator of House of Cards and a writer on Andor, is attached to write. No cast or director has been announced; the film is in pre-production.
The “beyond 2027” phrasing commits the studio to nothing more specific than eventually. The earliest plausible date is 2028, with 2029 looking more likely: House of the Dragon’s fourth and final season is due in 2028, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms returns in 2027. A 2029 release would also keep the franchise on a roughly yearly cycle rather than stacking its big moments.
UAE cinemas typically get Warner Bros franchise films in the same window as their global release, so local audiences should catch it whenever it opens. Until then, the series streams on OSN+ in the region.
