Tom’s Hardware reports that AMD unveiled the system during the opening keynote at IFA 2026, presenting it as a way to run models larger than 1 trillion parameters locally.
AMD Threadripper Halo Station: what is inside?
The system uses AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, a Zen 5 processor with 96 cores and 192 threads. The workstation shown at IFA has 2TB of DDR5 system memory, eight-channel memory support and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes.
Two Instinct MI350P cards currently provide 288GB of accelerator memory. Each card has 144GB of HBM3E, up to 4TB/s of memory bandwidth and a rated board power of up to 600W. AMD says the design can support four cards, taking the total to 576GB of HBM3E. Liquid cooling is doing the quiet part of that specification.
AMD’s own MI350P overview lists the accelerator’s CDNA 4 architecture, 144GB of HBM3E and up to 4TB/s bandwidth. The company positions the PCIe card for on-premises inference and RAG workloads, although the Halo Station’s four-card configuration remains a planned capability rather than the system shown at IFA.
What does the Halo Station mean for local AI?
The large memory pool is the point. A workstation with several accelerators can keep more model weights close to the compute hardware, reducing the need to move data between local memory and a cloud service. AMD says the Halo Station is intended for models beyond 1 trillion parameters, but it has not published pricing, a launch date or a complete performance comparison.
The system is aimed at studios, developers and research teams with workloads that justify workstation-class power, cooling and memory. It is a different proposition from AMD’s compact Ryzen AI Halo systems, which use shared memory in a smaller PC design.
