AMD has added two laptop processors to its Ryzen 400 line that ship without the neural processing unit every other member of the family carries. The Ryzen 7 449 and Ryzen 5 439 are Gorgon Point parts with the XDNA NPU binned off — and no “Ryzen AI” branding attached.
The Ryzen 7 449 pairs four Zen 5 cores with four Zen 5c cores for 8 cores and 16 threads, boosting to 5.0 GHz. The Ryzen 5 439 runs a 3+3 layout for 6 cores and 12 threads with a 4.6 GHz ceiling. Both are 28 W parts on TSMC 4nm, with Radeon 800M-series graphics: the 860M on the 449, the 840M on the 439.

Why the NPU is gone
Both chips drop the NPU that defines the rest of the Ryzen AI 400 series. The 449 is the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450 minus 100 MHz of boost; the 439 is the Ryzen AI 5 Pro 440 with half the L3 cache and a lower clock. Notebookcheck calls it binning: the same Gorgon Point silicon, sold without the AI block.
Without an NPU, total platform TOPS falls to roughly 8–9 on the 439 and 15–16 on the 449 — short of the 40 TOPS Microsoft wants for Copilot+ certification. Windows 11 runs fine; the local AI features simply stay cloud-side.
AMD has not disclosed pricing or named any laptop designs yet. The chips appeared on its own product finder in a hurry, listed under a “Ryzen 400” tab while the page header still reads “Ryzen 6000 Series”.
What it means if you’re shopping in the UAE
These are exactly the chips that end up in mainstream and budget laptops — the tier UAE retailers such as Amazon.ae, Sharaf DG and Jumbo sell in volume. No UAE machines or prices exist yet, but when the first Ryzen 7 449 laptops land they should undercut their Ryzen AI equivalents by roughly the cost of the NPU. For buyers who never open a local AI app, the chip does the same job for less. (AMD’s budget CPU play has run this route before.)
Why do the Ryzen 7 449 and Ryzen 5 439 have no NPU?

Are these chips slower than AMD’s Ryzen AI 400 chips?
Slightly. The Ryzen 7 449 loses 100 MHz of boost versus the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450, while the Ryzen 5 439 loses 200 MHz and half the L3 cache versus the Ryzen AI 5 Pro 440.
When will laptops with these chips reach the UAE?
No laptop designs or prices are announced yet. Expect them in mainstream and budget machines that typically land with UAE retailers such as Amazon.ae, Sharaf DG and Jumbo.
