What Is Elle About?
Elle is a coming-of-age comedy-drama that follows a teenage Elle Woods through the high school years that made her the iconic, unstoppable force we met in Legally Blonde. Before Harvard Law. Before the bend-and-snap. Before Warner Huntington III made the worst decision of his fictional life — there was high school.
Set in 1995, roughly six years before the events of the first film, the series drops us into the deep end of Elle’s adolescence: tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and — in the show’s own words — questionable fashion choices. It’s less courtroom drama, more hallway drama, but it carries the same warmth, wit and relentless optimism that made the original film a cultural touchstone.
The premise is genuinely rich territory. How does someone become Elle Woods? What did she fight through, laugh through, and absolutely refuse to back down from? The show takes its protagonist seriously even when the world around her doesn’t — which, if you remember, was always the secret sauce of Legally Blonde in the first place.
This isn’t a cynical nostalgia cash-in — or at least, it’s trying very hard not to be. Elle Cast
Leading the charge is Lexi Minetree as a teenage Elle Woods — a role that requires an actor who can carry warmth, comedy and conviction simultaneously, and casting someone new in an iconic role is always a swing. From what the trailer shows, she looks up to it.
June Diane Raphael (you know her from Grace and Frankie and approximately a thousand things you’ve loved) plays Eva Woods, Elle’s mum — inspired casting, because Raphael has exactly the energy to play the parent of someone like Elle. Tom Everett Scott rounds out the Woods family as dad Wyatt.
The supporting ensemble — Gabrielle Policano as Liz, Jacob Moskovitz as Miles, Chandler Kinney as Kimberly, Zac Looker as Dustin, and Amy Pietz as Donna — fills out Elle’s high-school world with the kind of texture a show like this lives or dies by. This cast deserves a good show, and from what we’ve seen, they might actually have one.
