Reports say filming for Avengers: Secret Wars may begin in January 2027, but Marvel has not confirmed a new production start or changed the film’s 17 December 2027 release date. The latest reports put the Multiverse Saga finale’s schedule under scrutiny, not officially behind it.
IGN reports that MCU insiders Daniel Richtman, Alex Perez and Apocalyptic Horseman have reported an early-2027 start, likely January, after filming had been expected to begin in September. A separate SuperHeroHype report, republished by Yahoo, also points to January, while describing earlier reported shifts from mid-2026 to later in the year. These are insider reports, not a schedule announced by Marvel.

Avengers: Secret Wars filming reportedly shifts to January 2027
The production timing is drawing attention because the reported start would leave less than a year before the planned cinema release. Marvel’s official film page still lists 17 December 2027, while Avengers: Doomsday is listed for 18 December 2026. The studio has not announced a revised date for either film.
If photography does begin in January, that would leave roughly 11 months before Secret Wars is due in cinemas. Neither Marvel nor the reports have published a confirmed filming schedule or wrap date, so the length of the post-production window cannot be established from the rumour alone.
The release date has already been part of Marvel’s wider slate planning: the studio previously described Secret Wars as its only MCU film scheduled for 2027, as tbreak reported in July. A move into 2028 would have wider scheduling implications, but there is no confirmed release change to report now.
Marvel has not announced an Avengers: Secret Wars release delay
Marvel’s current listing is the firmest public date available. The reported production change may prompt questions about the schedule, but a filming start date by itself does not establish that the film will miss its release window; Marvel has not said that it will.
How much time would a January 2027 start leave before release?
Roughly 10½ to 11½ months before the currently listed 17 December 2027 release, depending on the actual start date. The reports do not give a confirmed wrap date.
Does the reported filming delay mean the release date will move?
No. Marvel has not announced a new release date, and an unconfirmed production start alone cannot establish whether the film will need more time.
