Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern cameo talk has arrived 15 years after the 2011 film, with the actor saying he would return for HBO’s Lanterns.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the New York premiere of Mayday, Reynolds said he would “totally do a cameo” in Lanterns. He added that he loved the film and had learned a great deal from making it.

Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern cameo is possible, not confirmed

Reynolds was responding to a question about whether he would appear in Lanterns, the HBO series starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. His answer was enthusiastic, but there is no announcement from HBO or DC confirming that he has been approached or will appear.

“I would totally do a cameo in that,” Reynolds said, according to IGN’s report. “I love it. I learned so much making that movie.”

He followed that with the line that gives the story its title: “I owe my entire career to that movie. I owe everything to that.” Reynolds also said the experience taught him lessons about making a large-scale film, including what he described as the importance of character over spectacle.

Why Green Lantern still matters to Reynolds

The 2011 film paired Reynolds with Blake Lively, who played Carol Ferris. The two met while making the film and later married. Reynolds has since turned Green Lantern into a recurring punchline, including a Deadpool 2 scene in which he travels back in time to prevent himself from reading the screenplay.

Lanterns follows Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Pierre’s John Stewart as they investigate a murder in Nebraska. The new series is already streaming in the UAE on OSN+, as covered in our guide to where to watch Lanterns in the UAE. Reynolds’ cameo would therefore be a return to the role, not a replacement for the series’ current Hal Jordan.

The idea remains hypothetical. For now, Reynolds has said he is willing; Lanterns has not said it is asking.
