Gary Oldman says Amazon has chosen the next James Bond, but the studio has not announced who will take over from Daniel Craig. Oldman is backing his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for the role, while making clear that the official decision remains under wraps.

Next James Bond: what Gary Oldman actually said

Speaking to Canada’s The Morning Show while promoting Slow Horses Season 6, Oldman said Lowden had been rumoured to be on the shortlist before adding: “Because they have picked him. They have made their choice. But they have not announced it yet. So, my fingers are crossed for Jack.” IGN reported the comments, which were made during the press run for the Apple TV series.

Oldman did not explicitly say that Lowden had been cast. He may have been referring to Amazon MGM Studios choosing its Bond in general, rather than confirming his co-star as the winner. Deadline reported the same distinction, noting that the comments do not establish whether Lowden has secured the role.

Jack Lowden is one name in a crowded Bond search

Lowden, 36, plays River Cartwright in Slow Horses, where Oldman plays intelligence officer Jackson Lamb. He has also appeared in Dunkirk, Calibre and Mary Queen of Scots.

Amazon MGM Studios is developing Bond 26 with Denis Villeneuve directing. The official 007 site lists Villeneuve as the next film’s director, but it has not named the new Bond. IGN reported that shooting is expected to begin in 2027, with no release date confirmed.

The casting search has previously included Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi, among others. Lowden’s name has circulated for months, but Oldman’s comments are still not an announcement from Amazon MGM or the actor’s representatives.

Tbreak has previously covered the search for the next James Bond actor and Amazon MGM’s earlier casting delay. The franchise is moving forward; the identity of its new lead remains officially unconfirmed.
