Netflix’s Kuwaiti psychological horror series Obsess is out, and the final trailer plus the platform’s title page fill in the details that were missing when we first reported the 30 October date. Netflix’s title page lists four episodes running 49 to 58 minutes each, so this is a compact, single-sitting scare rather than a sprawling season.

What the new trailer sets up

Netflix says the trailer pulls viewers deeper into the unravelling of Talal (Yagoub Alfarhan), who returns to Kuwait after his father’s death. Visions and memories of Hessa (Haya Abdulsalam), the woman he once loved, start to crowd out everything else. What begins as guilt over an unresolved past turns darker, and Talal starts to question whether he’s imagining her or whether something more sinister has welcomed him home.

The trailer also shifts attention to the people around him. His wife Mona (Laila Abdallah), who’s also the mother of his child, tries to hold the family together while he grows distant and suspicious, and she’s dragged into a darkness she doesn’t fully understand. Hessa’s side gets room too. Netflix describes her hold on Talal as obsession rather than longing, with her own story marked by love, betrayal and loss. The question the trailer leaves hanging is no longer why Talal can’t let go of her, but what she’s done to make sure he never will.

Episodes, runtimes and languages

The title page gives each episode a short synopsis. Episode 1 (49 minutes) has Talal back in Kuwait for the first time in years. In episode 2 (56 minutes), the visions force him to look at his father’s deteriorating mental state and the relationship he thought was dead. Episode 3 (56 minutes) brings a journal from Hessa’s sister, which exposes the disturbing events behind her misfortune. Episode 4 (58 minutes) places Talal at Mona’s hospital bedside, where more secrets surface and he realises he has to break the curse.

For Gulf viewers, the language options matter as much as the plot. The page lists Arabic (Kuwait) as the original audio, with English among the subtitle options alongside Arabic, Spanish (Latin America) and two Chinese variants. It also lists English, French, German and Spanish dubs, plus audio description in Arabic, German and Spanish. Downloads for offline viewing are listed as available.

Who made it

Said El Marouk directs from a script by Eyad Saleh. Shasha produced the series and developed the story. Netflix’s release says the series is set in 1970s Kuwait, although the platform’s own descriptive tags on the title page mention the 1980s. The cast beyond the three leads includes Hussein Almansour, Ibrahim Alharbi, Asmahan Tawfik, Ghada Al Mulla, Hussain Alhaddad and Abdulla Alblooshi.

Netflix has sold Obsess as an “Only on Netflix” release and timed it for Halloween weekend. That makes it a short, regional alternative to the usual English-language horror queue. We haven’t seen a UAE-specific listing, so check your local catalogue if the title doesn’t appear in search.

Does Obsess have English subtitles?

Yes. Netflix’s title page lists English subtitles, with Arabic (Kuwait) as the original audio. English, French, German and Spanish dubs are also listed, though availability can vary by country.

How long does Obsess take to watch?

Four episodes run 49, 56, 56 and 58 minutes, which adds up to 3 hours and 39 minutes. That’s a comfortable weekend binge.

Is Obsess set in the 1970s or the 1980s?

Netflix’s press release places it in 1970s Kuwait. The title page’s mood tags say 1980s, so the platform’s own materials don’t agree, but the release is the official description of the setting.
