Robert Pattinson says The Batman Part 2 understands its hero in a way he hasn’t seen before. In an interview shared by BAFTA, he described “an understanding of Bruce Wayne and Batman’s psychology in a way that I don’t think has been seen before.” IGN reported the comments on 30 October.
Pattinson was careful to keep the details vague. He called the new script “amazing” and “another completely different world”, then acknowledged the weight of the character’s history. With hundreds of comics and countless interpretations behind Batman, he said, the sequel feels “enormous, but really unusual”, and “unusual in a different way to the first one”. That framing matters because the 2022 film already took a stripped-back approach, with a quiet, brooding Bruce Wayne who learns that vengeance won’t undo the past.
None of this comes with plot specifics. Pattinson didn’t reveal how Bruce Wayne’s psychology will be explored, so for now it’s an actor’s enthusiasm rather than a story outline. It does fit his earlier remarks, though. In March he told Deadline the script was “extraordinary” and “very, very different” from the last film.

A role he wants to keep
Pattinson also looked back at how he came to the part. He said it’s a “universally acknowledged fact” that Batman is the coolest superhero “by a million miles”, which is why the character was his first step into superhero films. Reading the 2022 script, he recalled, he felt something “immediately inspiring” in how the film reinvented Batman through its atmosphere. His conclusion was simple: “I just want to keep doing it for as long as I can.”
Where the production stands
The comments land after a bumpy stretch for the sequel. IGN says filming is back on track after behind-the-scenes issues that saw director Matt Reeves step back slightly while Steven Soderbergh helped out, something Pattinson called “completely selfless”. The film remains scheduled to premiere on 18 February 2028, a date also repeated by Variety India.
Pattinson has also spoken about the physical side of the shoot, saying the fight scenes are harder to perform this time. Together with the new psychological angle, that points to a sequel aiming to push the character both mentally and physically.
