Apple’s first new Apple TV 4K in almost four years is expected on Tuesday, 13 October, and it will launch without a keynote. MacRumors expects the release to come via a post on Apple Newsroom, followed by hands-on photos and videos from the reporters and creators Apple has invited to its “Welcome home” experience in New York. That event starts at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.

Apple hasn’t confirmed any product, so everything below is based on reports and expectations. The current model dates from October 2022, and the box has sat untouched while the rest of Apple’s range moved on.

What the new Apple TV 4K is expected to bring

The fourth-generation model is rumoured to use an A19 or A19 Pro chip, up from the A15 Bionic in the current one. That would mean 8GB to 12GB of RAM, up from 4GB today, and the extra memory reportedly enables Siri AI on the device. We’ve already covered why Siri AI is tied to new HomePod hardware, so the same logic applies here.

Connectivity should also improve. The box is expected to carry Apple’s N1 chip, which brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. The current Apple TV 4K supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The faster speeds and lower latency only help if you own a haveFi 7 router.

Don’t expect a new look. A leaked image showed no external design changes, as we noted in our look at the leak. The Siri Remote is the exception: Apple’s software code references a new version, though we haven’t seen a leak of what the revision looks like.

Price and the rest of the launch

The price is the open question. In June, Apple raised the Apple TV 4K’s price amid surging memory chip costs, and in the UAE it now starts at AED 829. With more RAM allotment on the rumour sheet, there’s no indication of how much more the new model will cost.

The streaming box is expected to share the stage with a refreshed HomePod mini and Apple’s first dedicated smart home hub, and our earlier piece on Apple’s confirmation of the launch has the wider picture. Apple also added the original 2017 model to its vintage list this week.

When will Apple announce the new Apple TV 4K?

Apple has scheduled its “Welcome home” launch for Tuesday, 13 October, and MacRumors expects a newsroom press release that day, with the New York experience starting at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.

Will the new Apple TV 4K look different?

Probably not. The leaked image shows the same design as the current model, though the Siri Remote is expected to change in some way.

Is Siri AI coming to the Apple TV?

It’s expected. Reports link the A19-class chip and 8GB to 12GB of RAM to Siri AI support, but Apple hasn’t confirmed this.
