A Jeff the Killer movie is in development. Creator-led studio Tongal and filmmaker Savanah Moss — 11.4 million TikTok followers, best known for her “fever dream” comedy-horror sketches — are adapting the 2008 creepypasta character for the big screen, TheWrap reported on Tuesday.
Jeff the Killer began as an internet horror story in 2008. The lore has shifted over the years, but the core remains a 13-year-old serial killer who starts a killing spree after bullies disfigure his face, and whispers “go to sleep” before attacking. He is most commonly represented by a heavily edited photograph of a person with a white face, black eyes and exposed red gums — an image that defined late-2000s internet horror.

Moss will produce alongside Mark Korshak (“Incoming,” “Peppermint,” “The Age of Adaline”) and Michael McKay (“Peppermint,” “The Age of Adaline,” “In Our Blood”). It will be Tongal’s first original feature-length horror film, and the studio says the project is the first of several creator-partner collaborations. The first open call is live at tongal.com/jeffthekiller, where creatives anywhere can pitch character concepts; more opportunities are planned as development continues.

Moss told TheWrap. She grew up reading creepypasta, she said, and has used Jeff in her own videos before.
The project rides a wave Hollywood has noticed. A24’s “Backrooms” made more than $395 million worldwide, the highest-grossing film in the studio’s history, and “Obsession” earned $488 million. A Backrooms sequel is already in development, with Kane Parsons looking for a screenwriter. Internet folklore is now a reliable horror pipeline.
No release date, cast or director have been announced; Tongal says more details on the creative team will arrive “in the coming months.” Those who grew up with the face on their screens can at least claim first pitch rights.
