Apple TV has released the trailer for Last Seen, its new Australian thriller starring Patrick Brammall, which premieres globally on September 9.
Brammall plays Ian Ridley, a police detective whose life fell apart 11 years ago when his young daughter, Maggie, disappeared without a trace. Now working as a police dispatcher, he takes a distress call from a teenage girl he is certain is Maggie. He has spent 11 years refusing to accept that she is gone; the job has just given him a reason to be right.
The series also stars Maxine Peake (Say Nothing), Brendan Cowell (Dune: Prophecy), Daniel Henshall (Mickey 17), Zahra Newman (Thirteen Lives), Jessica Wren (Mr Inbetween) and Tobias Muhafidin (Bali 2002), and introduces newcomer Chloe Jean Lourdes. Brammall is best known for Colin from Accounts; his recent credits include The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Evil.
Kris Mrksa adapts the screenplay from Ryan David Jahn’s CWA John Creasey Dagger-winning novel The Dispatcher. Emmy-nominated filmmaker Christian Schwochow (The Crown, Munich: The Edge of War) directs and executive produces, with Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta at 60Forty Films and Joanna Werner at Werner Film Productions.
Set and filmed in Victoria, Australia, Last Seen lands with two episodes on September 9, followed by a new episode every Wednesday until October 7 — the pacing of a thriller that wants to keep you subscribed. It joins a slate that already includes Hijack and Slow Horses; season 6 of the latter, also produced by 60Forty Films, returns on September 16.
The series comes from the studio behind Hijack, the Idris Elba plane thriller that became one of Apple’s biggest dramas. Whether Last Seen lands with the same force is the question the trailer is meant to answer.
