iPhone 18 Pro colours: burgundy, glacier, silver and black — Dark Cherry never happened

Colour is the one iPhone spec everybody has an opinion about, and this year it is also the biggest visible change. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max arriving at Apple’s 9 September event are expected to keep the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera plateau and body almost unchanged, which leaves the finishes doing all the work.

Confirmed, 9 September: Apple has announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in black, silver, glacier and burgundy. Dark Cherry, the name that dominated the leaks for months, is not one of them — burgundy is the deep red in the line-up. Pricing starts at AED 5,099, and everything else is in our event live blog.

The four official iPhone 18 Pro colours

• Burgundy — the new statement finish, and the one replacing Cosmic Orange.
• Glacier — Apple’s name for the pale cool-toned option the leaks called Light Blue.
• Silver — carried over, and still the safest resale colour in the UAE.
• Black — replacing the Dark Grey the supply chain expected.

What the leaks expected before the launch

Macworld, citing a source familiar with Apple’s supply chain, published internal Pantone references for this year’s Pro palette. Forbes reported the same four-colour line-up independently.

One caution worth stating plainly: Apple does not always ship four Pro colours, so one of these could be cut before the keynote. And because the iPhone 18 Pro’s aluminium and glass finish reflects light differently to a flat Pantone swatch, the real phones will read lighter or deeper than any render you have seen — including the ones generated from these codes.

Cosmic Orange is being discontinued

The iPhone 17 Pro’s Cosmic Orange was the most talked-about iPhone colour in years and, anecdotally, the hardest one to find in UAE stores through the first month of sales. It is not coming back. Apple typically retires the outgoing Pro palette wholesale, and multiple reports agree that Dark Cherry is the replacement signature colour rather than an addition to it.

If you specifically want Cosmic Orange, now is the time. Once the iPhone 18 Pro is announced, remaining iPhone 17 Pro stock in the UAE gets discounted, but colour choice narrows fast, and Cosmic Orange sells out first.

Two-tone or uniform?

The iPhone 17 Pro introduced a two-toned rear, with the camera plateau finished differently from the body. Reporting suggests Apple is moving back towards a more uniform colour scheme on the back for the iPhone 18 Pro. A single-tone back makes the plateau less visually dominant, which is the main criticism the iPhone 17 Pro design attracted.

Does the foldable get the same colours?

Almost certainly not. Apple’s first foldable iPhone — reported to be called the iPhone Ultra rather than the iPhone Fold — is a separate design with a hinge, and first-generation foldables from any manufacturer tend to launch in a conservative palette of two or three finishes. Nothing credible has leaked about its colours yet, which itself is a signal of how tightly that product is being held.

Which colour should you buy in the UAE?

A few practical notes after years of watching which iPhones hold value here:

• Dark Cherry will be the launch-day scarcity colour. If you want it on day one, pre-order in the first hour rather than walking into a store.
• Silver and Dark Grey are the safest resale colours in the UAE second-hand market, which is worth something if you upgrade annually.
• Light Blue is the one most likely to look dated in two years and likely to be discounted first.
• Whatever you pick, dark finishes on aluminium show micro-scratches around the edges more quickly than silver does — especially if you use your phone without a case.
