Batista was shot and killed by Leon Prater after trying to bring Dexter to justice in Season 1. The character has appeared in every season of the Dexter franchise since the original series began, making his return a familiar face with a slightly inconvenient medical history.
Deadline confirmed that Zayas is returning, while stressing that Batista is still dead. The report does not reveal how the character will appear.
IGN says Zayas was seen filming with Michael C. Hall in Times Square. He was reportedly wearing a Hawaiian shirt, his signature hat and a gun holster, suggesting the show may use a version of Batista from his Miami Metro years as a visual manifestation of Dexter’s conscience.
