Avengers: Endgame Encore now gives Steve Rogers’ ending a direct line into Avengers: Doomsday. The re-release extends Steve and Peggy Carter’s quiet dance with an unexpected visit from Loki, and co-director Anthony Russo says that extra beat is where the next Avengers film begins.
The new scene, revealed in early screenings and reported by IGN, shows Loki arriving at Steve and Peggy’s home in what appears to be his TVA uniform. Peggy answers the door. Steve stays out of sight nearby, which is a less peaceful retirement than the original film promised.

Russo discussed the sequence during a Q&A after a New York screening. Asked whether working on Avengers: Doomsday had changed the meaning of a moment in Endgame, he pointed to the extended finale.
“There’s certainly a pivotal moment at the end where… the moment has a different meaning. We play one beat past where Steve Rogers’ story ended with Peggy Carter, and in that moment, that’s where Doomsday is born.”

That does not confirm that Steve caused the multiverse crisis, or that Loki is taking him and Peggy to Doctor Doom’s universe. It does establish that the new scene is intended as a story bridge rather than a bonus farewell. A separate report by The Sunday Guardian carries the same Russo explanation and identifies the added footage as the point where the new film is born.
What Avengers Endgame Encore leaves unanswered
The scene does not explain why Loki needs Steve and Peggy, where they go next, or how their story connects to Doctor Doom. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell are both part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, while the first teaser has already shown Evans returning as Steve and mourning alongside a baby who is presumed to be his child with Peggy.
That leaves the new ending doing two jobs. It revises Steve’s apparently settled life and gives Marvel a route back to him without undoing the original emotional ending entirely. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for 18 December 2026, when the film will have to explain what Loki started at that front door.
