Apple Siri AI may let iPhone and Mac users choose third-party models such as Claude or ChatGPT, according to code found in iOS 27 and macOS 27. The feature is not available to users yet, and Apple has not confirmed when or where it will launch.
Apple Siri AI could hand tasks to Claude or ChatGPT
Developer pdfu found private frameworks in iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate that include a Model Delegation API for third-party Siri extensions, according to MacRumors. In a demonstration shared on X, Claude appears in the Mac’s “Search or Ask” bar, where the user can select it from an “Ask…” menu.
The extension can interpret a request such as setting a reminder, then hand the action back to Siri so Apple’s Reminders app completes it. MacRumors reported that another demonstration used Claude to create a CSV file, a task the current Siri AI could not handle on its own.
The discovery follows earlier reporting that Apple planned to let users choose a preferred AI model for Apple Intelligence features. The Verge reported in May that Apple was testing model providers including Google and Anthropic, with compatible apps potentially adding support through the App Store. Apple may go further than a Siri extension
A second protocol, called Inference Providing in Apple’s Model Manager Services, appears to allow Apple’s server-side Siri model to be replaced by another model. In the demonstration, GPT-5.6 receives Apple’s Siri planner prompt and tool definitions, allowing it to request system actions while Siri presents the response through its interface.
The example involved finding emails, summarising them and sending a message through Apple’s Messages app. That is different from the existing ChatGPT hand-off, where Siri passes a request to OpenAI when it cannot answer. Here, the third-party model appears to handle the wider AI interaction while still using Apple’s system tools.
The code does not show that Apple has approved this for public use. MacRumors said the Claude option is not currently available, while the “Ask…” implementation is limited to ChatGPT in the macOS 27 release candidate. Apple has also not opened the model delegation entitlement to third-party developers.
What it could mean for iPhone users in the UAE
For UAE users, the practical question will be whether Apple enables model selection outside the European Union. The EU’s Digital Markets Act requires Apple to give third parties effective access to hardware and software features available to its own services, and the European Commission has said that principle applies to Siri. That leaves the global rollout unclear.
If Apple makes the feature available in the UAE, users could choose a preferred assistant for general AI requests while Siri continues to handle Apple apps and system actions. Privacy permissions, supported languages and the availability of each provider in the UAE will matter more than the model picker itself.
The current code is evidence of Apple’s direction, not a launch announcement. Apple has not said that Claude, ChatGPT or any other third-party model will replace Siri AI for UAE users.
