IO Interactive has released a free Starter Pack for 007 First Light, which lets you play the game’s opening mission without paying. Bleeding Cool, relaying the studio’s announcement, reports that the pack is live on Steam and Xbox Series X|S from 5 November. PS5 players get the free download on 10 November. PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can use a one-hour timed trial in the meantime.

The pack covers Against the Odds, which VGC reports should take about an hour to finish. The mission starts in Iceland and introduces a younger, rougher Bond than the films have shown. In a post on X, the game’s official account tells PS Plus Premium members they can get a taste of the game through a trial with one hour of gameplay.

Two PlayStation routes, one Xbox and PC download

The PS5 setup is the part to watch, because the timed trial and the Starter Pack are separate things. Techtroduce reports that the Starter Pack needs no subscription and covers the opening mission instead of a fixed one-hour window. That makes 10 November the date for anyone on PS5 without Premium. On Xbox, the pack appears as a separate free edition in the Microsoft Store, and PC players can grab it from Steam.

Whichever version you try, the studio’s announcement says progress carries into the full game if you buy it, so you won’t replay the Iceland opening. The sale prices are timed to the demo, with different windows per platform:

Xbox Series X\S40%5-15 November
PS550%5-30 November

Bleeding Cool lists the dates, and Otaku PT and PlayDay give the 40% figure for Xbox. The studio’s announcement doesn’t list prices for the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Egypt, so check your local store for the final amount.

Why now

VGC links the push to the game’s Switch 2 port, which is set for 18 March 2027. The demo also lands after a busy few months for the game. IO Interactive added free Extended Operations DLC with New Game+ and new missions and shipped Patch 1.1.0 with two missions and three weapons. It also removed Denuvo two months after launch. Sales have been healthy, too: the game passed 3 million copies in under two weeks, and Amazon Games’ boss has said a sequel “should be made”.

The game earned a 5/5 from VGC, whose reviewer called it potentially the best Bond game ever made. If you’ve been waiting for a discount or a reason to try it, the Starter Pack and the sale cover both. We’d start with the free mission and decide before the Steam sale ends on 9 November.

Do I need PlayStation Plus Premium to try the demo on PS5?

Only if you want to play today. According to the studio’s announcement, Premium members get a one-hour timed trial now, and the free Starter Pack follows on 10 November without a subscription.

Will my progress carry over if I buy the full game?

Yes. IO Interactive says progress from either the Starter Pack or the PS Plus Premium trial carries into the full game after purchase.

When do the discounts on the full game end?

The Steam sale ends on 9 November and the Xbox sale on 15 November. The PS5 discount lasts until 30 November.
