Tom Holland Says Jean Grey Isn’t in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Sadie Sink’s Role Is Still Secret

Tom Holland says Jean Grey is absent from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Sadie Sink’s secret role keeps the biggest fan theory alive for now.

Is Jean Grey confirmed for Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Jean Grey is not confirmed for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Tom Holland has now directly denied that she appears.

As our sister site IGN Middle East reported, Brazilian TikToker Natalia Kreuser suggested to Holland that Jean Grey could use her psychic powers to restore MJ’s memories of Peter Parker. Holland replied: “She’s not in this movie but it would be pretty cool.”

That is a remarkably clean answer by superhero-film standards. No official Sony or Marvel press release, synopsis, cast list, or trailer identifies Jean Grey as a character in the film, so Holland’s denial agrees with everything formally announced so far.

Fans remain suspicious because Andrew Garfield repeatedly denied appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home before ultimately turning up in the film. The comparison explains the scepticism, but it does not prove Holland is attempting the same misdirection. Treating every denial as secret confirmation makes rumour tracking wonderfully convenient and fact-checking completely impossible.

Who is Sadie Sink playing?

Sadie Sink’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day character remains officially unidentified.

Sink is confirmed as part of the cast, but no character name accompanied her casting. Theories have linked her to Jean Grey and Gwen Stacy, although neither identity has been confirmed by Sony, Marvel, or a leading trade outlet.

Sadie Sink’s own response to the Jean Grey rumours offered no resolution, while she described the secrecy surrounding her role as “torture” during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Director Destin Daniel Cretton has also said there is a genuine reason for keeping the character hidden until audiences see the film.

The Jean Grey theory has some obvious narrative fuel. The announced story setup places Peter in a world where nobody remembers him following Doctor Strange’s spell, making a telepathic character an appealing answer for fans trying to solve MJ’s missing memories. Appealing is still several web-swings away from confirmed.

Holland’s statement narrows the sensible reading: either Sink is playing somebody else, or the film is protecting its reveal with deliberate misdirection. There is currently no independent evidence establishing the second option.

When does Spider-Man: Brand New Day open in the UAE?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens exclusively in UAE cinemas on 31 July 2026.

The UAE release is aligned with the film’s main global date, and both VOX Cinemas UAE and Novo Cinemas UAE list the film. Our earlier UAE trailer coverage confirmed the 31 July cinema release, so local audiences will not have to dodge the inevitable identity reveal for longer than everyone else.

Until then, Holland’s denial is the clearest public statement available: Jean Grey is absent, and Sink is playing someone whose identity remains under wraps. If the film proves him wrong, fans can add another entry to the Spider-Man press-tour misdirection file. For now, the Jean Grey theory remains exactly that — a theory with an unusually energetic fan club.
