Xiaomi has significantly upgraded its devices and even implemented a few ideas from the competitor’s playbook, such as introducing a titanium alloy frame on its Pro model. The Xiaomi 14 series is also the first set of phones to boast running Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Design and Build Quality

Xiaomi 14 Pro Tbreak

Unmisktably a Flagship

The Xiaomi 14 has a design and build quality fit for its flagship status. Its metal or titanium frame and ceramic back panel exude that premium look and feel that only comes with a flagship. The sleek and slim profile makes it more comfortable to hold and use than its predecessor.

Titanium Edition

The Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with a Special Titanium Edition, which utilizes a frame made of titanium alloy. It makes the phone stronger and lighter than the Xiaomi 13’s Aluminium frame. On top of the titanium’s durability, it gives it that elegant look, especially if you don’t put a case on it.

Color Choices

You don’t expect much when it comes to colour choices on flagships, and it’s the same with the Xiaomi 14. It’s all the safe and elegant colours from Ceramic Black, Ceramic White, and Ceramic Blue. The blue model does have that vibrant and eye-catching flair, giving it a bit of personality.

Display

HyperDisplay

LTPO OLED technology is the norm for flagships, and the Xiaomi 14 followed suit with HyperDisplay, allowing for a more adaptive refresh rate. It means it can switch between 1Hz and 120Hz depending on what’s on your screen.

Both models have LTPO displays, with the non-pro getting OLED, while the Pro uses AMOLED for that more vibrant look.

Peak Brightness

Every smartphone launch is taking its peak brightness numbers up a notch. From the iPhone 15 to the Pixel 8, it’s Xiaomi’s turn to one-up everyone with a 3000-nit peak brightness screen. You won’t have a problem using your phone under the sun, as you can see everything.

Performance

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Pro are the first smartphones powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It’s the first processor to use the ARMv9 architecture that delivers blazing-fast performance and can handle any task or game without sweat.

The chip powers the Xiaomi 14’s brand-new AI features, especially when enhancing photos and videos in real time. It also brings in-device generative AI capabilities, which Xiaomi will take advantage of in the future.

It will also be the first chipset to support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for faster and more stable connectivity.

RAM and Storage

If you have the latest Snapdragon chip, you also need components that match, for example, a sufficient amount of RAM and storage. It will ensure the phone runs multiple apps without experiencing any slowdowns or crashes.

The Xiaomi 14 models have exactly that, giving you a choice between 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of ultra-fast UFS 4.0 storage.

Camera

Leica-Powered Lenses

The Xiaomi 14’s camera system is co-engineered by Leica, a renowned German camera maker. It has four cameras, three at the rear and a single selfie camera at the front. They can all capture stunning photos and videos in various lighting conditions.

Light Hunter 900 Sensor

One of the main changes in the Xiaomi 14’s camera system is the Light Hunter 900 sensor, which replaces the previous 1-inch sensor on the main camera. It can capture more light, even in low-light conditions, and has a dynamic range of 13.5EV.

This new sensor captures both highlights and shadows of a scene in greater detail, resulting in more realistic and natural-looking pictures.

Battery Life

Capacity

The Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Pro are equipped with a Li-Po battery lasting a full day of moderate to heavy use. Battery life always comes down to many other factors, such as display settings and apps running in the background.

However, in most cases, like browsing, video streaming, playing games, taking photos, and making calls, it should last you more than 12 hours of active use.

Hyper-Fast Wired Charging

One difference between the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro is their charging capabilities. The non-pro model has a 90W wired turbo charging feature, while the Pro model has a 120W HyperCharge. Both are extremely fast, charging your device from 0% to 100% in 25 minutes.

In the case of the Xiaomi 14 Pro with HyperCharge, that number comes down to around 18 minutes.

Software

Android 14 Out of the Box

One of the first smartphones to run Android 14 apart from the Google Pixels is the Xiaomi 14. Android 14 brings brand-new features and improvements to the experience, like improved privacy controls, redesigned widgets, nearby share, and more intuitive smart home controls.

HyperOS

The Xiaomi 14s are also the first phones where Xiaomi is introducing their brand-new HyperOS skin, which replaces MIUI. It adds more features and customization options to stock Android, which include AI modes for gaming, photography, and video editing.

Xiaomi also introduced its new suite of Hyper features like HyperDrive for faster file transfers, HyperShare for cross-device sharing, HyperVision for improved video quality, and HyperSecurity for better privacy.

AI-Boosted Features

Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s AI capabilities, the Xiaomi 14 has AI features that greatly enhance its performance and functionality. The obvious ones are for gaming, photography, and video editing, where your phone figures out the best settings and modes depending on your actions.

These features can be considered a start compared to the Pixel’s AI features. However, expect Xiaomi to work on improving these together with HyperOS.

The iPhone 15 is the latest flagship from Apple that boasts a powerful yet efficient performance from its A16 Bionic chip. Photos and videos are also its strong suit, as most consider it the best smartphone camera. However, it does come with iOS, and if you’re an Android user, it’s generally not a phone you are considering.

Summing It Up

The Xiaomi 14 is a “hyper-powered” flagship smartphone with much to offer. The star of the show here is certainly the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, giving it unparalleled performance with room for AI.

There’s also the Leica camera system with the Light Hunter 900 sensor, which allows you to capture excellent photos and videos no matter the condition. If you’re looking for a flagship that can handle anything you throw at it, the Xiaomi 14 is an excellent choice. It also offers a lot of value for its price point.
