Microsoft’s new Surface Mouse arrives on 13 October with haptic feedback, a customisable action button and Bluetooth 6.0. The $79.99 accessory is the first major update to the Surface Mouse since its original launch in 2016.

The Surface Mouse uses haptics for clicks, drags, window snapping and object alignment in Windows 11. Microsoft says the feedback also works in PowerPoint, Affinity, Concepts and Filmora, although the effect is designed to stay subtle rather than turn every desktop action into a tiny vibration event.

Microsoft added broader haptic feedback support to Windows 11 earlier this year. The new mouse is one of the few dedicated accessories built around it, alongside Logitech’s MX Master 4. The Surface Mouse’s haptics therefore have a fairly specific audience: people who spend enough time arranging windows and objects to notice the extra physical response.

Microsoft’s Brett Ostrum described the feature as “a small, purposeful physical response” to an action that would normally exist only on screen. The company says it should be noticeable within seconds, but that claim is still a product promise rather than an independent test result.

Surface Mouse features and price

The redesigned mouse has a soft-touch upper surface and an ambidextrous shape intended for all-day use. Its customisable action button can launch Copilot, or be assigned to another shortcut through the Surface app. It can respond to a press, hold or double-click.

The mouse ships in black and platinum and can pair with up to three devices. Two AAA batteries are included. Microsoft has not announced a UAE price or local release date, so the US price should not be treated as an AED recommendation. The company’s regional availability will need a separate check when the product reaches retailers.

What the Surface Mouse means for Windows 11 users

The new hardware makes Windows 11’s haptic features easier to access without buying a specialist accessory. It also gives Copilot another physical shortcut, although the button is configurable rather than locked to Microsoft’s assistant.

Microsoft says the Surface Mouse will launch on the same day as its refreshed Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch.
