Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets a $360M Opening Weekend Record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $360 million domestically, beating Avengers: Endgame’s unadjusted opening record by $3 million.

The final tally turned a close race into a record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day now holds the biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history with $360 million. The final US and Canada figure, reported by Variety’s Rebecca Rubin, puts it just ahead of the $357 million earned by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

Sunday’s estimate had Brand New Day at $355 million, which would have left it in second place. The final count added another $5 million and turned a near miss into a $3 million victory — a remarkably expensive photo finish, even by superhero standards.

Box office measureGross
Brand New Day domestic opening$360 million
Avengers: Endgame domestic opening$357 million
Brand New Day earlier domestic estimate$355 million
Brand New Day global opening$932 million

The domestic comparison is not adjusted for inflation. On that basis, Tom Holland’s latest outing as Peter Parker has taken the record Endgame held since 2019.

The worldwide opening climbed to $932 million

Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $932 million globally across its first three days in cinemas. That total is higher than the earlier $927 million figure covered in tbreak’s initial report on the worldwide opening.

The revised number gives Sony and Marvel’s comic-book adventure an enormous launch on both sides of the ledger: a domestic record and a worldwide total approaching $1 billion after one weekend. Variety noted that few films reach $932 million during their entire cinema runs, let alone within three days.

The global figure should be kept separate from the domestic record claim. Brand New Day’s confirmed historical record here is its $360 million opening in the US and Canada; the report does not place its $932 million worldwide launch at the top of the all-time global ranking.

Sony is celebrating, with the usual record-holder caveat

Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman thanked the film’s cast, filmmakers, producers, studio staff, and marketing and distribution teams after the final total arrived. He said Sony would take pride in the record “for as long as we hold it.”

That last line is fair enough. Avengers: Endgame’s benchmark survived for years, and Brand New Day has cleared it by only $3 million before inflation enters the conversation. Box office history still counts the win, though, and Spider-Man has finally swung past the combined might of the Avengers.
