Stardew Valley
Platforms: PC, PS, Switch, Xbox, Mobile
Stardew Valley, released in 2016, has become an indie darling for many players and continues to captivate its audience with continuous updates and new additions that keep the gameplay loop of a farming sim and social RPG engaging and interesting.
On the surface, it offers a tranquil escape: players inherit a neglected farm and must cultivate crops, raise animals, and manage resources. However, the game is much deeper than it looks.
The core gameplay loop thrives on a satisfying cycle of planting, harvesting, and selling goods while upgrading tools, expanding your farm and unlocking new areas provide a constant sense of progression. The game also encourages meeting and charming the townsfolk of Pelican Town, who all have unique personalities and backstories. By building relationships through gifting, players can not only unlock additional lore but also access to shops and special events.
Stardew Valley can be somewhat challenging, but it also allows players to set their own pace. Players can farm, socialize, or explore nearby mines at their leisure. This open-ended approach, relaxing soundtrack, and colourful visuals are the perfect way to spend some lull time during Ramadan.
