Final Fantasy 7 Revelation showed off its Weapons, submarine combat and the Highwind in a new trailer at gamescom’s Opening Night Live. It is the fullest look at the remake trilogy’s finale since Summer Game Fest.

The trailer opens with Rufus Shinra on the Shinra News Network, assuring citizens that humanity will “reign supreme” over the looming Meteor and the Weapons. The camera then does its own editorialising: one Weapon tears through Shinra soldiers. Ruby, Emerald and Ultima Weapon each get named appearances, and director Naoki Hamaguchi promised the game will “deliver an unforgettable experience in a world without boundaries”.

“You call ’em planetary warriors,” Cid says. “But I call ’em weapons of mass destruction!”

Vincent offers the quieter read: “the Planet sees us as another threat to her well-being, and rightfully so.”

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: submarine combat, the Highwind and Wutai

Beyond the boss fights, the trailer showed the party inside a submarine with the Huge Materia at its centre, an underwater combat section, and a prerendered cutscene of the Highwind trading blows with a Weapon. There is parachuting from the airship, chocobo riding across the open world, and Yuffie exploring Wutai. Tifa wears her Black Mage FITS outfit, and the Typhon summon also appears.

Square Enix calls the Weapons “standout battles” in the finale, with some appearing “in ultra-challenging endgame battles as an homage to their original forms”, per Nova Crystallis. Many are optional fights, which the studio has said carry their own narrative components. It fits the shape director Hamaguchi has outlined for the trilogy’s ending.
