France and Saudi Arabia have agreed to build a €6 billion ($7 billion) Dragon Ball Z theme park near Paris, the Élysée Palace said on Monday, Reuters reported, as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman began a state visit to the French capital.
The park will sit near Cergy-Pontoise, northwest of Paris, and is expected to create around 22,000 jobs. It is one of three parks in the development, which the Élysée says will rank among Europe’s largest. No opening date has been set; the parks open in stages, and construction is expected to take several years. BBC News reported French media suggest the site could be the former Mirapolis park in Val-d’Oise, which closed 35 years ago.

Qiddiya Investment Company, part of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, is financing the project. It is the second time the fund has put its money behind the franchise, whose anime future is its own ongoing story.

The idea came from a shared enthusiasm the two leaders discovered during Macron’s 2025 visit to Saudi Arabia. Macron is a known manga fan; earlier this year he ended a press briefing with Japan’s prime minister by doing a hand gesture from the Dragon Ball series.

The announcement came during a two-day visit that included the closing ceremony of the Esports World Cup, moved to Paris from Riyadh this year. French officials cast the deal as evidence the country still draws foreign investment; the leaders are also expected to sign agreements on health, transport and energy. Saudi money keeps finding its way into regional games and entertainment — Savvy Games’ Roblox partnership ran through the same sovereign fund.
