Brothers, Apple TV’s eight-episode comedy in which Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson play fictionalised versions of themselves, now has a trailer. The first two episodes premiere globally on Wednesday 23 September, with one new episode every Wednesday through 4 November.
What is Brothers about?
The setup is a what-if between two real-life best friends. When Woody’s daughter’s engagement falls apart, he loads up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch. A visit from Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac (Holland Taylor), goes sideways when she lets slip a long-buried secret: the two friends might actually be brothers.
Woody turns the ranch upside down chasing the truth. Matthew, meanwhile, has his own identity crisis to manage — a possible run for Governor of Texas. Apple’s own tagline for the trailer is “based on a ‘true’ rumor”.

McConaughey and Harrelson executive produce alongside showrunner Lee Eisenberg, the Emmy-nominated, Peabody-winning writer whose credits include The Office. The ensemble also features Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe and Holland Taylor. Trent O’Donnell directs multiple episodes, including the pilot, and the series is produced for Apple TV by Paramount Television Studios.
The pair have shared a screen before — True Detective’s first season — and their real friendship is the raw material here. Apple TV has been leaning on comedy of late: its shows took a strong run of comedy nominations at the 2026 Emmys, and Ted Lasso has already broken records for the platform. Brothers arrives in that slot.
