Apple reportedly tested a shorter Apple Pencil for its upcoming foldable iPhone, but the accessory is unlikely to reach stores. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported the detail in his Power On newsletter, according to MacRumors.
Apple Pencil iPhone Ultra prototype was shorter and magnetic
The reported prototype was stubbier than the Apple Pencil models made for iPad. It was designed to attach magnetically to the side of the foldable iPhone and charge there, matching the way Apple Pencil Pro pairs, charges and stores on supported iPad models.
The detail comes from Gurman’s 30 August newsletter. Bloomberg’s summary says Apple tested a Pencil for the coming foldable iPhone, while MacRumors attributes the shorter design and magnetic charging details to Gurman. Apple has not announced the accessory.
The foldable iPhone is expected in September
Apple is expected to show its first foldable iPhone at an event on 9 September, although the company has not confirmed the device or its final name. The iPhone Ultra name has appeared in previous reports, but it remains a rumour rather than an announced product.
There is no confirmed price, launch date or UAE availability for the foldable iPhone or the reported Pencil.
