Foldable iPhone: Apple Already Planning 2027 and 2028 Models

Apple's foldable iPhone roadmap runs past the first model: a second-gen arrives in 2027 and a third-gen as early as 2028, per Mark Gurman.

Apple has already mapped out a second-generation foldable iPhone for 2027 and a third-generation model arriving as early as 2028, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said the first foldable iPhone — expected to launch in September or October as the “iPhone Ultra” or “iPhone Fold” — is only the beginning. The company is planning a second-generation model for fall 2027, reportedly launching alongside the 20th-anniversary iPhone. A third-generation version would follow as early as 2028, featuring slightly larger internal and external displays than the first-gen unit.

The current foldable iPhone is expected to ship with a 7.8-inch inner OLED panel and a 5.5-inch outer display, both supplied by Samsung Display. The third-generation model would build on those dimensions, though Gurman did not provide exact screen sizes for the later models.

Apple’s reported schedule puts the three generations roughly one year apart: 2026, 2027, and 2028. The first-gen model is tipped to arrive with an ultra-thin chassis, Touch ID in place of Face ID, Apple’s A20 chip, and the in-house C2 modem, at a price reportedly around or above $2,000 (approximately AED 7,350).

The first foldable iPhone is expected to launch in the UAE in the coming weeks alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The UAE is typically part of Apple’s first-wave launch markets, and the foldable Ultra is expected to arrive here in September alongside the rest of the iPhone 18 family. UAE pricing has not yet been confirmed, but the US starting price of $2,000 would translate to roughly AED 7,350 before local taxes and markups.

The second-generation model is expected to follow the same pattern in 2027, with the third-generation arriving in 2028.
