Valve has finally confirmed the price and release for its new Steam Machine, and it is considerably more expensive than a conventional games console. The SteamOS-powered living-room PC will start at $1,049, with the first purchase invitations scheduled to be sent on June 29, 2026.
Reservations are now open through Steam, although registering does not guarantee that buyers will immediately receive the option to place an order. Valve is using a waiting-list system to manage the initial supply.
Steam Machine prices start at $1,049
The entry-level Steam Machine includes 512GB of storage and costs $1,049. A bundle containing the same system and the new Steam Controller is priced at $1,128.
The larger 2TB Steam Machine costs $1,349 on its own or $1,428 when bundled with the Steam Controller. This effectively prices the controller at $79 when purchased as part of either bundle.
Valve is also including two additional swappable faceplates with the 2TB versions. Buyers will receive red fabric and solid walnut designs alongside the standard black faceplate.
No official UAE or wider Middle East pricing and availability have been announced.
Reservations will be randomised before orders begin
Anyone interested in buying the Steam Machine can join the reservation queue now. Valve plans to randomise everyone registered in the queue on June 25 at 1pm ET, rather than simply prioritising those who registered first.
Customers joining after that point will be placed at the end of the waiting list. The first emails allowing selected customers to purchase a Steam Machine will be sent from June 29.
The reservation system is likely intended to distribute the limited initial stock more fairly and make it harder for automated purchasing tools to secure the first available units.
Valve is not subsidising the hardware
At $1,049, the least expensive Steam Machine sits well above the price of the current PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Valve, however, is positioning the device as a compact PC rather than a subsidised console.
The company says it is selling the Steam Machine for approximately the cost of its components instead of reducing the hardware price and recovering the difference through game sales or subscriptions. Its main appeal is access to an existing Steam library, along with the flexibility of a customisable Linux-based PC.
Valve originally expected to begin shipping its latest hardware in early 2026, but shortages affecting memory and storage forced the company to reconsider its pricing and launch schedule. The Steam Controller was eventually released separately in May, while pricing and a specific release date for the Steam Frame VR headset have still not been announced.
