XPENG says its Iron humanoid robot autonomously walked off a newly commissioned production line in China, moving the project from prototype assembly towards mass production targeted for the end of 2026.
The company says more than 80 percent of the line’s core processes are automated and that it has adapted quality systems from its electric-car manufacturing business for robotics. The first step is a factory milestone, not proof that Iron is ready for a full working day or broad customer use. XPENG has not disclosed the line’s current output, price or an independent safety assessment.

XPENG plans to deploy Iron first in its own stores and campuses, where the robot is expected to handle reception, vehicle introductions, guided tours, inspections and small-item handling. China and overseas deliveries are planned for 2027, although the company has not named markets or confirmed UAE availability.
XPENG’s official announcement describes Iron as a general-purpose platform with 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand. Three in-house Turing AI chips provide up to 2,250 trillion operations per second, allowing XPENG’s physical AI model to run on the robot rather than depend on a remote operator.
The company’s robotics push arrives as carmakers apply their manufacturing and AI experience to humanoids. Tesla is also converting automotive capacity towards Optimus, while Dubai delivery robots are already being tested in high-rise buildings. XPENG’s expanding UAE vehicle business gives the company a local automotive footprint, but it does not establish a local Iron rollout.
XPENG’s official announcement says the robot lines were created from scratch, with no precedent to follow. Engadget’s report notes that the walk does not show how Iron would handle a full working day. The company’s robotics unit also raised more than US$900 million in August at a post-money valuation above US$6.3 billion, according to XPENG’s announcement.
The distinction between a commissioned line and mass production will be tested over the next few months. For comparison, Tesla’s Optimus plans have also involved factory conversion and production targets, but neither company has established a broad consumer market for humanoid robots yet.
