Xbox Mythic Achievements are rolling out to Xbox Insiders, giving players a permanent mark for completing a game’s original achievement list. Microsoft says later achievements added through downloadable content or updates do not count towards the requirement, and eligible games completed in the past can receive Mythic status too, including Xbox 360 titles. Xbox’s announcement turns the platform’s previously teased Platinum-style reward into a feature Insiders can test now.
Microsoft first confirmed that it was working on a completion reward for later in 2026, as our earlier report explained. The new system is called Mythic Achievements, and The Verge reports that the update is already available to Insiders. The wider release has not been dated.

Xbox Mythic Achievements: what counts towards completion
Players earn Mythic status by finishing all the achievements that originally shipped with a game. A later expansion or update can add more achievements, but those do not block Mythic status. Microsoft also says the status is permanent once earned, so a game’s achievement list growing after completion will not take the mark away.
That gives players a clearer boundary between finishing a game’s original achievement set and clearing every add-on released afterwards. For Xbox Mythic Achievements, progress is measured against the original list, not a moving target shaped by future updates. Players can still work through DLC achievements, but those sit outside this particular completion marker.
The system is similar in purpose to PlayStation’s Platinum trophies: both give players a visible reward for clearing a game’s main achievement or trophy set. Xbox has not announced a separate points value for a Mythic Achievement, so the feature should be treated as a completion marker rather than assumed to add Gamerscore.
Old completions can count, but not every game is confirmed
Mythic status also applies to eligible games players completed before the feature arrived. Microsoft says those games have already been updated, including eligible Xbox 360 titles, so a player may find Mythic markers on older completions the next time they check their profile.
Xbox has not published a list of supported games or said that every title with achievements will receive a Mythic marker. The announcement confirms backward recognition for eligible games, not a blanket guarantee for the entire Xbox catalogue. Players may see a mix of older completions rather than a universal conversion of every past 100 per cent run.

A new Gaming tab puts progress on the profile
The update adds a Gaming tab to Xbox profiles. It collects a player’s achievements, their next Gamerscore milestone badge and completed games. Mythic completions receive a distinctive frame in the achievement history, while friends’ Gaming tabs can be viewed to compare completed games.
For unfinished games, a progress bar appears at the top of the achievement list. Players can filter the view to focus on the original achievements still needed, while later additions are labelled “add-on”. Microsoft says similar progress information will appear in the Xbox Guide and achievement details, so players can check what remains without working through every item in a long list.
The profile changes build on earlier Xbox achievement updates, including a visual refresh and the option to hide games from achievement lists. Xbox is now adding a distinct marker for a finished game, rather than only changing how existing achievements appear.
Xbox has not set a public release date
For now, Mythic Achievements are an Insider preview. Microsoft’s post does not give a date for a wider rollout or specify which Insider rings will receive the feature first. Players who are not in the programme will have to wait for Xbox to share those details.
Should you complete DLC before looking for a Mythic Achievement?
No. Mythic status is based on the game’s original achievements, so later DLC or update achievements are not needed to earn it. Players can treat add-on achievements as a separate completion goal.
What should you do if an older completed game has no Mythic marker?
Xbox says only eligible games receive retroactive Mythic status and has not published a full supported-game list. A missing marker therefore does not by itself prove the completion is lost; Xbox has not explained how eligibility is determined.
Has Xbox confirmed whether Mythic Achievements add Gamerscore?
The launch announcement does not give a Gamerscore value for Mythic status. It describes a completion marker and profile feature, so any extra points remain unconfirmed.
Can an update remove a Mythic Achievement after it is earned?
Microsoft says Mythic status is permanent once earned. Later achievements added through DLC or updates are not required and do not take the marker away.
