Xbox Platinum Achievements Are Coming This Year, Asha Sharma Confirms

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed a platinum-style completion achievement is on the way later this year. Here's what we know — and the questions Xbox hasn't answered.

Xbox is finally getting its own version of PlayStation’s platinum trophy, with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirming the team is working on something for later this year.

PlayStation has awarded the platinum since 2008, when unlocking every trophy in a game’s base list earns a single, displayable capstone. Xbox players have asked for the equivalent for most of the same period. Microsoft built the platform-wide achievement in 2005, when the Xbox 360 shipped with a 1000-point Gamerscore per game, and it has never added a reward for finishing one.

Asked on X whether Xbox would ever introduce a true platinum equivalent, Sharma replied:

Team is working on something for later this year!

That is the entire statement. No name, no form, no date beyond the year. It could be a new achievement that unlocks at 100 per cent completion, a badge, something on the profile, or all three.

Some developers already ship unofficial “platinum achievements” — an achievement that unlocks when you unlock every other — and the results have been uneven. TrueAchievements keeps a record of the ones that break, glitch, or become impossible after server closures.

The confirmation fits a pattern. Since taking over, Sharma has been reshaping the platform team, and Xbox has been working through the top requests on its own feedback site: voice chat in game captures, hiding games from public profiles, and walking back last year’s Game Pass price hike. The platinum-style achievement was one of the most-requested items left on that list; it is now the one with a public deadline.

The open questions are the usual ones. Does a base-game 100 per cent still count when DLC adds more achievements? What happens to live-service games whose achievements were time-limited and are now unobtainable? Steam’s equivalent ribbon is revoked when new achievements land, to the fury of anyone who has completed Vampire Survivors more than once. Xbox will have to pick an answer; it has not said which.

What is a platinum trophy?

A reward PlayStation has given since 2008 for unlocking every trophy in a game’s base list. It is the closest thing gaming has to a universal mark of a finished game.

When is the Xbox platinum achievement coming?

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the team is ‘working on something for later this year’ in a reply on X in August 2026. No date, name or feature details have been announced.

What are ‘platinum achievements’ on Xbox today?

Some developers add an achievement that unlocks when you earn every other achievement in a game. They are unofficial and inconsistent, and some have broken — a platform-level version would replace that.
