Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 at Snapdragon Summit, giving its 2026 flagship phone silicon a two-tier 2nm line-up, according to Qualcomm’s official announcement. Both chips use Oryon CPU cores reaching 5GHz, but the Extreme model adds more headroom for on-device AI, video capture and gaming.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 puts 30B AI on the phone
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 can run a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model locally, according to Qualcomm and TechCrunch’s report from the launch. The Extreme chip also has a larger shared NPU memory pool, while both platforms add sensing hubs that can run models of up to 200 million parameters for features such as speaker recognition, personal scribe tools and voice-in/voice-out agents.
Both chips share two prime CPU cores running at up to 5GHz and six performance cores reaching up to 4GHz. Qualcomm also says the platforms use its Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU on a 2nm process. That confirms the process node and product split that earlier leaks had only suggested.
Extreme adds pro video and AI-assisted gaming
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K video at 60 frames per second, 4K at 240fps and Qualcomm’s Advanced Professional Video codec. It also adds AI-dedicated Adreno matrix cores and Adreno Neural Fusion for features such as AI upscaling and frame generation in supported games. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 does not get those Extreme-only capabilities.
The Verge’s launch report says the two chips otherwise share much of their platform specification, including modem, display, security, memory and storage support. That leaves phone makers to decide whether the extra camera and AI features justify using the top-tier part.
Qualcomm has named Motorola, Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, Redmi, Nubia, RedMagic and ZTE as partners. Motorola’s Signature 27 is the first announced phone using the Extreme chip, with general availability expected later this year. Qualcomm has not announced UAE pricing or local release dates for any of the devices.

Will every Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 phone support 8K60 video?
