The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5, unveiled today, is the company’s flagship earbuds with a feature you can reach with a screwdriver: the batteries in both the buds and the charging case are user-replaceable. The pitch is that the earbuds no longer die with their cells.

The earbuds launch September 3 at $299.95 (about AED 1,100), the same price as the Momentum True Wireless 4 from early 2024, in five metallic finishes: graphite, cream, copper, denim and lavender.

Replaceable batteries are creeping back into consumer audio ahead of European Union battery rules that take effect in early 2027. Bang & Olufsen’s Beoplay Eleven needs a technician for the swap; the Fairphone Fairbuds let owners do it themselves. Sennheiser’s own over-ear Momentum 5 already had the feature; the earbuds now follow. It arrives the same month as the Sonos Ace Ultra, another premium wireless audio launch.

“Balancing compact size, our signature high-fidelity acoustics, and a replaceable battery is a major breakthrough.”

Battery life is up to 12 hours per charge and 40 hours with the Qi charging case, up from 7.5 and 30 on the Momentum 4, and an 8-minute top-up adds about an hour. The rest of the spec sheet has moved on too: Bluetooth 6.0 with a “robust mode” for crowded radio environments, aptX Lossless up to 24-bit/96kHz, a revised adaptive ANC with anti-wind mode, Dolby Atmos with interactive head tracking, and an IP54 rating.

The sound side keeps Sennheiser’s 7mm TrueResponse driver, made in its Tullamore, Ireland facility, and adds an eight-sensor voice array — six microphones and two bone-conduction accelerometers — with AI speech extraction.

What it will cost in the UAE

The $299.95 price converts to roughly AED 1,100, and Sennheiser’s regional pricing tends to land close to the US figure: the Momentum True Wireless 4 launched at AED 1,199 and now sits around AED 699 on Amazon.ae after a price cut. Expect the new model at AED 1,099–1,199 when UAE retailers list it — Sennheiser has not confirmed regional pricing yet. The brand’s recent UAE launches, like the HD 480 PRO at AED 1,549, suggest the earbuds will land near the US price.
