The censorship has naturally invited fans to complete the sentence themselves. Suggestions include an offer to restore memories of Peter Parker and questions connected to how people respond to superpowers, but none of those proposed lines appears in the clip. Marvel has supplied five seconds of footage and somehow created several days of unpaid detective work. Efficient, really.
Why do fans think Sadie Sink could be Jean Grey?
Fans suspect Sink could be Jean Grey because of existing casting rumours and the possibility that her character is communicating telepathically. Jean Grey is known for telepathy and telekinesis in Marvel Comics, which gives viewers a ready-made explanation for the clip’s odd presentation.
Although censor bars cover part of Sink’s face, her mouth appears barely to move while the dialogue plays. Some viewers have interpreted that as telepathic speech, with the censor bar serving as a deliberate distraction rather than concealing ordinary dialogue.
It is an appealing theory, but it remains a theory. Marvel has not identified Sink as Jean Grey, and Sink’s response when confronted with the Jean Grey speculation did not resolve the mystery either.
Mary Jane Watson has also entered the discussion, largely because Sink’s appearance could match some depictions of the character. Marvel has not confirmed that possibility, and Zendaya’s Michelle Jones-Watson already occupies the MJ role in this version of Spider-Man’s story. The safest conclusion is also the least glamorous: Sink is playing somebody, and Marvel would very much like everyone to keep guessing.

The date means the character mystery should soon have an answer on the big screen. Marvel has not revealed whether Sink is Jean Grey, Mary Jane Watson, or someone else, so any confident identification before the film opens remains speculation.
The clip also offers no confirmation that its interrupted sentence concerns Peter Parker’s identity or the memories of Ned and MJ. Those ideas fit unresolved story threads, but Marvel’s marketing has deliberately removed the words that would establish what Sink’s character actually means. For now, “What would you do if…” is both the entire clue and an impressively accurate description of the fan conversation.
