AMD is reportedly preparing another Gorgon Point laptop chip that splits the Ryzen AI 400 family in an unusual way: fewer CPU cores, but the full-size integrated GPU. As reported by VideoCardz, Weibo leaker Golden Pig Upgrade says the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 has eight cores, 16 threads, 24MB of L3 cache, and 16 GPU compute units. AMD has not officially confirmed the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455. TechPowerUp also picked up the leak.
Where the HX 455 would slot in
The two standard HX chips in the range, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 475 and HX 470, both have 12 cores and Radeon 890M graphics with 16 compute units. AMD’s only eight-core model in the family today, the Ryzen AI 7 450, uses Radeon 860M graphics with eight compute units and 16MB of L3 cache. The HX 455 would keep the 450’s core count but double the GPU and increase the cache to 24MB, matching the 12-core parts.
| Chip | Cores / threads | L3 cache | iGPU | GPU CUs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen AI 9 HX 475 / HX 470 | 12 / 24 | 24MB | Radeon 890M | 16 |
| Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 (leaked) | 8 / 16 | 24MB | Radeon 890M | 16 |
| Ryzen AI 7 450 | 8 / 16 | 16MB | Radeon 860M | 8 |
The mix resembles the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, the chip in gaming handhelds. VideoCardz says that processor pairs three Zen 5 cores and five Zen 5c cores with 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units, but carries only 16MB of L3 cache. If the leak holds, the HX 455 would be a laptop part with that handheld-style balance and a bigger cache.
What’s still missing
The leak doesn’t cover the details that decide how the chip would perform. VideoCardz says the HX 455 has no confirmed CPU or GPU clock speeds, NPU specification or power rating, while the existing HX models reach up to 5.2GHz and offer 55 to 60 TOPS of NPU performance. Pricing, launch timing and which laptops might use it are also unknown.
The name is the other signal. Both current standard HX chips carry the Ryzen AI 9 badge, so the HX 455 would be the third standard HX model and the first under the Ryzen AI 7 name. AMD has recently shown it will build laptop chips around cost as well as capability, as in the NPU-free Ryzen 7 449 and Ryzen 5 439, so a lower-core chip with a strong GPU would fit that pattern. Treat the specs as provisional until AMD publishes a product page.
Is the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 the same chip as the Ryzen Z2 Extreme?
No, and the leak doesn’t claim it is. VideoCardz only notes that the core and GPU configuration is similar, while the HX 455’s reported 24MB of L3 cache is larger than the Z2 Extreme’s 16MB.
When will laptops with the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 arrive?
Nobody knows yet. AMD hasn’t announced the chip, and the leak includes no launch date, pricing or laptop designs, so there’s no regional availability to report for the UAE or elsewhere.
How does it differ from the Ryzen AI 7 450?
Both reportedly have eight cores and 16 threads. The HX 455 would add Radeon 890M graphics with 16 compute units instead of 8, and 24MB of L3 cache instead of 16MB.
