NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 24GB may miss a January launch: board partners reportedly still hadn’t received design kits by the end of October. VideoCardz reported the slip, citing Taiwanese outlet BenchLife, which says NVIDIA was due to send the documentation in October.

The 24GB card is rumoured to replace the 16GB model, with 50% more GDDR7. Without the design kits, though, partners can’t finish designing, testing and validating their cards for mass production. That takes time.

One board partner once told VideoCardz that launching a new graphics card takes “at least six weeks after receiving the necessary design information.” Earlier reports pointed to the first quarter of 2027, and Chinese distribution channels later suggested December 2026 or January 2027. BenchLife now thinks a January launch is unlikely, though VideoCardz notes there are still nearly three months until the end of January 2027.

A delayed launch doesn’t rule out an early reveal. NVIDIA could still show the card at CES 2027. VideoCardz points out that an announcement wouldn’t need retail-ready cards, so a CES reveal could come several weeks before the card goes on sale.

NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed the card, and we don’t know its final name, price or clocks. It’s unclear whether it’s the same card as the rumoured RTX 5080 SUPER. In July, a board partner reportedly had RTX 50 SUPER hardware, but NVIDIA put its release on hold over the cost of 3GB GDDR7 chips. For reference, the current RTX 5080 launched on 30 January 2025 has an MSRP of $999, but real-world listings are much higher.

The same BenchLife reports say board partners are no longer getting GB202 chips for the RTX 5090, possibly an allocation change rather than a formal discontinuation. NVIDIA denied it was discontinuing the RTX 5090, saying shipping will continue despite supply constraints. Meanwhile, a leak suggests the RTX 60 series may slip to 2028, so high-end RTX 50 cards still have to last a while.

VideoCardz warns that if NVIDIA retires the 16GB 5080 while cutting 5090 shipments, already scarce cards could get scarcer and pricier over the next two to three months. CES 2027, from 6 to 9 January, is the next date to watch.
