Dan Stevens has been cast as Alex Murphy, the fallen cop who becomes RoboCop, in Prime Video’s eight-episode RoboCop series. He is the first confirmed name in the RoboCop series cast, with Deadline reporting the news as an exclusive this morning and Variety confirming it.
The news lands a month after Amazon MGM Studios officially greenlit the series, which has been in development since Amazon bought MGM in 2022. Stevens emerged quickly as the frontrunner for a role made famous by Peter Weller in Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film. We covered the initial order back in July. It is the latest big-name franchise casting for the streamer, following Dave Bautista as Kratos in the God of War series.
The RoboCop series cast so far
Stevens plays Alex Murphy, the officer whose consciousness ends up inside the armoured robot a city has hired to police its streets. The official logline stays close to the 1987 setup: a giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force, implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer. Stevens is the only name in the RoboCop series cast so far — no other roles have been announced.

Who is Dan Stevens?
The British actor broke out on Downton Abbey and led FX’s Legion, with Zero Day, Solar Opposites and Godzilla x Kong on the recent CV. He is currently filming the second season of Dexter: Resurrection and appeared this spring in The Terror: The Devil in Silver. The RoboCop series extends an existing run with Amazon MGM, which is also behind his John le Carré adaptation Legacy of Spies for MGM+.
There is no release date yet. Prime Video operates in the UAE, so the series should be watchable here once Amazon sets a timeline. Until then, the RoboCop on a UAE screen is still the 1987 original.
