RoboCop is coming back to the screen as an eight-episode series at Prime Video, and this time the people behind the original film are helping steer it. The project has been ordered outright, with The Conjuring creator James Wan attached as executive producer — a detail Entertainment Weekly and ComicBook both report as official rather than the usual will-they-won’t-they development limbo.
Who is making the new RoboCop series?
The series is being developed by Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the studio formed when Blumhouse Productions merged with James Wan’s Atomic Monster. Wan, who co-created the Saw and Insidious franchises before launching The Conjuring universe, executive produces alongside Michael Clear and Rob Hackett.
Peter Ocko is on board as writer, showrunner, and co-executive producer, having joined the project in 2024. Ocko has more than three decades of TV credits behind him, including Pushing Daisies, The Office, Elementary, and Black Sails — a range that leans more towards character-driven storytelling than pure action spectacle.
The detail longtime fans will care about most: Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, co-creators and co-writers of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film, are attached as executive producers. That direct line back to the original is either reassuring or a sign of how carefully Amazon wants to handle a property with a devoted following. Possibly both.
What will the RoboCop series be about?
The official logline sticks close to the RoboCop most people already know: “A giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer.” So the bones of the story remain intact — the corporate satire, the identity crisis, the very bad idea of outsourcing law enforcement to a machine.
Wan, who called himself a “massive” fan of the franchise, framed the appeal in a press release around the original’s prescience. “What Paul Verhoeven created in 1987 was decades ahead of its time, and its questions about technology, identity, and who corporations really serve have only grown more urgent,” he said, adding that the aim is to “honor what made the original iconic” while “building something unmistakably new for a global audience.”
Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global Television, described the property as “a sharp, provocative mirror of our relationship with technology and power” and said the team hopes to “captivate a whole new generation of fans on Prime Video.” The project has been in the works since Amazon acquired MGM back in 2022, so this order has been a long time coming.
Can UAE viewers watch it, and when?
There is no release date yet, so there is nothing to stream in the UAE just now — only a confirmed order. Prime Video operates in the UAE, so this is a title local subscribers can reasonably expect to track once Amazon sets a timeline, but no UAE-specific launch window has been announced.
In the meantime, RoboCop fans looking for something to actually do have RoboCop: Rogue City, the first-person shooter that launched in November 2023 with a standalone expansion in 2025.
