During his Variety interview, he pointed directly to the comics and noted that Steve becomes Nomad there, before retreating to an emphatic lack of knowledge when the interviewer suggested that could happen in Doomsday. Perfectly normal Marvel behaviour: provide a map, point at the destination, then insist nobody knows where the road goes.

Mackie was clearer about the shield. He said Steve will not take back the Captain America mantle, leaving Sam Wilson as Captain America when the two characters share the screen. That keeps Steve’s return from immediately reversing the handover established in Endgame.

Marvel’s official Hall H recap positions Avengers: Doomsday as a major ensemble project in its upcoming film slate. The film is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026, although the sources available for this story do not confirm a UAE cinema date.

For now, audiences can expect Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson to coexist without competing for the Captain America title. Whether Nomad is the answer or merely the pitch that started eight years of conversations remains one of the secrets Marvel has successfully kept.
