Kane Parsons says a Backrooms limited series is his preferred way to reach the horror story’s planned main ending, but no series has been announced.
Speaking to Deadline at the Zurich Summit, Parsons said there had always been a plan for the ending, though finding the right way to package it had been difficult.

“I’ve said since the very beginning that the dream scenario would be a limited series for Backrooms to get to the main ending.”

Backrooms limited series: the ending is still unannounced
Parsons said the story has a set arc and that he is excited by the possibility of following through on it. The interview does not announce a commission, platform, release date or episode count. His comment describes the format he would prefer, not a confirmed television project.
How the Backrooms film fits into Parsons’ plan
The 2026 A24 film grew from the online series Parsons began releasing in 2022. In a May interview with Variety, he described the feature as a way into a larger story that had been set up online, rather than the end of it.
Tbreak reported in June that Parsons was looking for a screenwriting partner for a Backrooms follow-up film. That is a separate development from his preferred route to the story’s main ending; he has not said whether both formats would happen.
The film’s box-office run provides context for the franchise’s future, but not confirmation of a series. Variety reported that Backrooms had grossed $400.09 million worldwide against a $10 million production budget, becoming A24’s highest-grossing film.
Parsons has also been linked to separate speculation about a Portal film after visiting Valve; Tbreak covered that report. Neither that speculation nor the Backrooms series idea amounts to an announced production.
Would a Backrooms limited series continue the film’s story?
Parsons has not said. He described a planned arc extending beyond the 2026 film and a limited series as his preferred way to reach the main ending, but did not identify which plot points or characters it would continue.
What does ‘limited series’ tell viewers about the ending?
Only that Parsons prefers a finite television format for it. He has not disclosed an episode count, platform or release plan, so the exact scope and route to the ending remain unknown.
