Inde Navarrette says she has studied Rogue and wants to do the character justice as she prepares for Marvel’s X-Men. In a Los Angeles Times profile published on 28 September, the actor said she wants her take to meet her own expectations, as well as those of director Jake Schreier and fans.

Inde Navarrette on getting Rogue right

“I’m doing everything humanly possible because I love that character. I’ve studied that character. I want to do it justice for myself, for Jake, for what they want to portray and also for what I as a fan want her to be like. I’m doing everything, exclamation point.”

Inde Navarrette, to the Los Angeles Times

The comments describe Navarrette’s personal standard for the role, not a preview of the film’s story. She says she has studied Rogue, but the interview does not name a particular comic-book run or explain how Marvel will adapt the character.

Rogue’s powers make physical contact a source of danger: Marvel’s character profile says she can absorb another person’s powers and memories by touch. That ability is one of the character’s defining constraints, but the interview does not say which parts of Rogue’s history the new film will draw on.

Navarrette follows Anna Paquin, who played Rogue in Fox’s live-action films. Entertainment Weekly’s cast coverage notes the handover to Navarrette, giving audiences an obvious comparison point. Her quote addresses the responsibility of taking on an established character, but Marvel has not said how its version will differ.

Rogue joins Marvel’s X-Men cast for 2028

Marvel confirmed Navarrette as Rogue in its D23 cast announcement and has scheduled the untitled film for 5 May 2028. Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving and Maya Boyd are also in the cast; the studio said more casting news was still to come.

IGN’s report on Navarrette’s comments also points readers to the LA Times interview. tbreak has already covered the X-Men cast reveal at D23. It previously reported Navarrette’s decision to choose Rogue over a role in Heat 2.

Has Marvel explained which version of Rogue Navarrette will play?

No. Marvel’s cast announcement names Navarrette as Rogue but does not describe the film’s plot or specify which comic-book interpretation it will use.

Does Navarrette’s interview reveal the X-Men film’s story?

No. She discusses studying Rogue and wanting to honour the character, but gives no plot, costume or adaptation details.
