Grand Theft Auto VI‘s extended look premieres on Netflix on August 27 — and Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick says it will feel like a Netflix show. He told Bloomberg’s Game On newsletter that the presentation is a “must-see event”, and that pre-orders for the game have “vastly” exceeded the company’s own internal forecasts.
Rockstar confirmed the premiere last week: Netflix gets it at 3pm ET, which is 11pm in Dubai, and six hours later it goes free on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the GTA VI website. Netflix has also confirmed that creators can clip, react to and cover the premiere from the moment it goes live. We covered the announcement when it broke.

Zelnick’s answer to the obvious question is that the choice will explain itself. “If you watch it, you’ll understand more,” he told Bloomberg, pointing to the size of Netflix’s audience. Asked whether it will feel like a Netflix show, he said yes. He called the premiere “one of the hors d’oeuvres” ahead of the November 19 launch — the opening course of the marketing campaign, not the main event.
Fans have read the six-hour exclusive window less charitably: a paywall in front of the game’s most anticipated footage. The complaints land on top of the $79.99 standard price and the Ultimate Edition’s locked extras — each move defensible on its own, harder to swallow together.
Zelnick declined to give pre-order numbers, saying he did not want to mislead investors with raw data. GTA VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
