Google is pitching the Googlebook as a new laptop category that combines the Android app ecosystem with ChromeOS-style desktop features. The full launch report from 9to5Google says every model has at least 16GB of RAM, a touchscreen and a Glowbar on the lid. Google promises up to 10 years of automatic updates, up to 14 hours of video playback and up to 16 hours of web browsing.
What Googlebook does differently
The software is built around moving between an Android phone and laptop. Continue On can move tasks between devices, while Cast My Apps lets users run phone applications on the laptop without installing them. The Files app can surface documents and photos from a connected phone, and Gemini features can generate file descriptions to make searches easier.
Google also says that 20,000 mobile and PC games will run on the platform. Developers can use the Antigravity app, Linux tools, Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex, with a Level 5 security-certified hypervisor intended to isolate the Linux environment.
Each laptop includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage, plus three-month trials of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop and CapCut. The Verge breakdown of the five Googlebooks notes that Acer’s $899 launch price is described as limited-time pricing, so it may not hold indefinitely.
